Old Business
It was discussed in 2014 that the club needed to apply for the non-profit tax exempt status for Hobby clubs under the IRS 501(C) 7, since nothing had ever been done. The process to do the non-profit is lengthy and hasn’t been done yet, due to needing more things to be done to get registered with the State of Iowa and to become incorporated for a non-profit club. In 2014 the IRS had set new guidelines for filing a short form to become a non-profit at a lower price to be filed online. It was voted to retract applying for a 501(c) 7 hobby club non-profit status.

- Non-Profit status under the IRS should be applied for
It was discussed that the club needs to still apply for the non-profit tax exempt status for non-profits under the IRS 501(C) 3. The one-time fee of $400 is charged to apply for the status. Once accepted there will need to be a yearly filing sent to the IRS. Before filing with the IRS, the club needs to file an articles of incorporation for a nonprofit corporation with the State of Iowa. Bob Wingert had talked to a lawyer (Mesen) about getting this done and what the fee would be. Mensen told Wingert that he would give the club a discount for getting the paperwork filed with the State of Iowa. The fee for filing with the state for the articles of incorporation will be $20 plus lawyer fees. A copy of the by-laws that were typed up wasincluded in the packet of information. The lawyer will help with the paperwork that needs to be filed after April 15, 2015.
